Melms Mission Blog

Thank you for stopping by to see what God is doing in our lives. God has really called us into the mission field and He is changing our lives through these missions. So, we decided that we should start a blog in order to chronicle our journeys, especially for those who have contributed to our financial needs. We also hope that God will use this as a tool to open other peoples' eyes as well. Please come back occasionally to check for updates, because God has really opened a flood gate for us! If God has placed it on your heart to contribute, please click the donate link below. We appreciate your prayers and support! God bless.

Thanksgiving Haiti Mission Trip

As I reflect back to the Thanksgiving Haiti trip, it kind of makes me laugh. When Lacie told me that she felt God's calling to adopt from Haiti, initially I only felt that my role was that of a supporting husband. She was so fired up about it and told me that we were going to Haiti during Thanksgiving with the church. She said that part of the adoption process was for me to meet Guerryg before he actually came home. At first I was really reluctant. I wasn't reluctant to meet him as much as I really didn't feel the calling to go to Haiti at that time. I had just gotten back from Brazil and just didn't think that there was any room for Haiti in my heart. I knew that at some point I would have to go there, but I hated the idea of going on a mission trip where I wasn't feeling called. In fact, it ended up that only one of us was going to be able to go because of finances, and Lacie insisted that I go. I tried many times to get her to take my place, but in the end I went. As the date approached, God had really worked on my heart and I started to get anxious. God knew all along where my heart truly was, even though I didn't. The trip was amazing! Of course I fell deeply in love with my son and his country. The relationships I formed were wonderful and God really showed me not to be so stubborn. This may sound crazy, but Haiti kind of felt like home.

Adoption Update

It has been a very busy summer! Just wanted to give an update on the adoption process. We sent our I600A to Immigration for approval. We are still working on completing the abundance of paperwork that has to be sent to the Haitian government. It is a very long and tedious process. Every little step is costing us money so we have to be patient and work on God's timing. I have to confess that it is very hard to do that. Please continue to pray for our family as we journey through this calling.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed in any way! We appreciate your prayers and support!
